There are many factions within the lands of Tamriel. They include:
Mage: Throughout Tamriel, there are many mages who use their arts in a variety of ways, from healing to necromancy. There are schools where one can learn the arcane arts. In Cyrodiil's Imperial City, there resides the Arcane University. There is also the College of Winterhold in Skyrim.
Fighter: In every province, there are warriors who will ban together to fight for the common good. They develop a very close bond of friendship and brotherhood through arms.
Thief: No matter how much the guards of the cities may deny it, there is still the very real presence of thieves in every province. They often come together and pool their resources for mutual benefits, forming their own guild.
Assassin: The Dark Brotherhood continues to hold sway over the provinces, striking fear into the hearts of people. Their reverence for the Dread Father Sithis and the Night Mother inspires an attitude of family and trust that few other factions can ever hope to achieve.
Blades: Their founding dates back to before the time of Tiber Septim. The Blades were famous dragonslayers, and it was their sworn duty to protect the Dragonborn. As the years passed their role changed, starting with Tiber Septim's conquest over all Tamriel. They became the Emperor's personal guard, often working behind the scenes to keep him safe. After the death of Martin Septim at the end of the Third Era, they became lost and seemingly purposeless. They still firmly believe in something, but they are just not sure what. Right now, their greatest enemy are the Thalmor.
