Jolfried sat in the tavern in the city of Riften. It was a grungy place--the city, not the bar. The bar was almost meticulously clean. It seemed the one respectable place in the city, aside from the Temple of Mara. But what could one expect from a city so close to the Morrowind boarder? He quickly downed a mug of mead. It was some of the best drink he'd ever had, and this was his fifth. As such, he was quite in a merry mood. "Barkeep!" he called out, sliding the now empty mug over. "I'll have another!" As he waited for his drink to be served, he listened to a bard behind him play a lute. The sound lulled him, and he was momentarily lost in thought. He quickly came back to himself, however, when he felt a hand fishing around in his pocket. He grabbed the wrist and turned to face the pickpocket. It was a snively looking man who squeaked upon being caught. "Have you no honor, thief?" Jolfried asked in quiet anger. "Stealing is no way to live. Find an honest job. If you can't do that, then join the army." He shoved the man back and turned back to the bar.

The city was a murky place. The people in Riften had shifty eyes, and they watched Atla as she moved through them to the tavern. The city was not new to her. She'd been here before with her father, so she knew that this particular tavern would be the best place to have a meal and lodge for a night. Stepping inside, the first thing she saw was a little man being scolded by a burly fellow. She understood well enough what was going on. When the thief stumbled back from the man, she caught him by the shoulders to keep him from falling. He shook out of her grasp and made to leave. "Hold a moment." she said. Reaching into a pouch, she retrieved five coins and gave them to him. "Use that wisely." The thief blinked at her, opened his mouth, shut it, and then hastened out the tavern.

Dalien stepped into the tavern after Atla. His red eyes scanned the area, taking in all the different sights and sounds. His eyes drifted to where Atla's attention was taken to. He watched in quiet amusement as she caught the thief. Here she goes.... She always saw the best in people; a rare and appreciative gift, one that even benefited him. "If you keep giving your money away, I may have to pay today." He jibed her as he watched the patrons of the tavern, wondering where they all hailed from. He was still learning about everything and everyone and was excited to learn more each day. "Why are we in Riften?" He asked Atla, curious on what adventure she was leading him into.

Jolfried finished his next mug of mead and was more than a little drunk. He turned around to see the thief he'd caught leaving. "Serves your right, you honorless whelp," he muttered rather loudly. Then his eyes fell upon the quite fetching Nord woman who had just walked in. He grinned as he approached her. "Hey there," he told her. "You look thirshty. How about I buy you a mug of thish inn's mosht exshellent mead?" He glanced at the Dunmer who had accompanied her inside, but then decided there was no way they could possibly be together, as no Nord in her right mind would agree to travel with one of those bastards. It must have been a coincidence.

Elduin was leaning on the taverns bar, he watched as a drunken Nord began making moves on some poor woman. "This man knows no bounds." He thought to himself, but that was the way around here mostly, Nordic warriors were always full of honor or mead and rarely were they full of both at the same time, especially in Riften. Elduin's thoughts returned to his home in Valenwood, he missed it dearly, but there was no coin in his trade there and his trade was killing something he had become very honed at doing. His eyes were already scanning the tavern for the contact he was supposed to meet and arrange a price on a specific targets head, which was becoming more difficult seeing that the religious fanatics known as the Dark Brotherhood took moat contracts in Skyrim. Elduin knew if this job didn't pay enough he would be off to another providence, something he did not want to do, after all the women in this town were so easily seduced.

Atla wasn't entirely sure why she had come to Riften. She felt pulled there, and so she went with her intuition. It was what had driven her father for so many years. "Riften is troubled place." She said to Dalien. "Perhaps we can do something to help the people here. Or perhaps we will just find adventure." She eyed the drunken man wobbling towards them. He seemed somehow familiar, though she could not figure out why. "As well as an abundance of drunks." she added, glancing at Dalien and rolling her eyes. Atla stood her ground as the warrior approached. "Thank you for the offer, kinsman, but my friend and I are mostly interested in a hot meal. We're weary and hungry from travel." She gave him a polite smile and stepped past him, towards an empty table.

Elduin watched the pair as they dismissed the Nord warrior. "A Dunmer and a Nord traveling together? My eyes must deceive me." He said quietly to himself as he slid from his stool and made his way through the crowds in the tavern to their small table. "May I steal a moment of your time? After all it is far more valuable then most would want to rob you of in a town such as this one." Elduin asked the Nordic women with a smile that would charm a bird from the sky. He nodded to her Dunmer companion, after all in Elduin's mind any elf in this land was related through the hardship of racism they all endured. "Quite a journey from Morrowind brother, what brings you into the cold and harsh wilderness of Skyrim?" He asked him politely.

Jolfried gave a hurt expression when the woman turned him down. He continued to gaze after her through his woozy vision. She reminded him of someone, but he couldn't place who. "You look familiar," he said, following her. "Have we drunk together before? Or fight? Or...fought and then drunk? Or maybe we got drunk and then fought...I shwear by Shor I've seen you somewhere before, though..." He stumbled over a chair he didn't see and fell into a table. He recovered quickly, though, getting up on the table and raised a hand. "DRINKS FOR EVERYONE!" he yelled. Then he spotted a Wood Elf in the corner who seemed shifty, even to him in his drunken state. "Except you...I don't like the looks of you."

Atla couldn't help but smile at the warrior's drunken persistence. It was oddly endearing, though he was a brute. "I'm sorry, but I don't think we've met before." she said, not bothering to turn around. Reaching the table, she sat with Dalien and waited for a server. It wasn't long before they were approached again, but this time by a charming wood elf. "I suppose you may." she said, nodding to him in greeting. As the wood elf than addressed Dalien, Atla looked back at the warrior, who was hastily getting back to his feet. He had knocked himself over, it seemed, and she smirked again. Her eyebrows rose when he ordered drinks for everyone. Her shock turned to disgust when he excluded the kindly acting wood elf. Prejudice was a disease, as far as she was concerned. Unfortunately there weren't any potions to cure it.

Elduin smiled at the drunken Nord "None of your kind take kindly to mine Nord, however in Valenwood we would greet you with open arms. Such is the way of life I suppose, but come have a seat and allow me to buy the three of you mead." He said with another charming smile. Elduin had done this time and time again, buying a drunk man mead could turn him from hated rival into a close friend for the evening, and Elduin was not short on money by any means. "Barkeep give this man your finest mead and my two friends here whatever their heart desires." Elduin said before turning his head back to the lovely Nord and her companion. "So what brings you to this little slice of heaven might I ask?" Elduin asked with a smile "Oh but where are my manners, my name is Elduin." He said with a slight chuckle as he glanced at the male Nord who was continuously watching him.

Dalien nodded at Atla. "Then we have come to the right place, no?" He asked Atla as they were soon interrupted by a Nord warrior. He nodded politely at the Nordsmen and sat down next to Atla, his back tense as he watched the people around them. "I do hope we can have an adventure soon; its been a bit boring." He gave her a small smile, which faltered when the drunk kept following them. "Do men enjoy to drink a lot?" He asked Atla, not sure if this was custom or just what that particular human did after Atla declined knowing him. Dalien stared at the wood elf with curiousity. He had met some other elves with Atla during their time together, but it still surprised him to see them around. "I enjoy traveling." Dalien replied simply. Dalien's turned his head at the loud Nord, slightly annoyed at the prejudice for being an elf. He kept a composed expression, not wanting to cause trouble, however, if one was to arise, he was ready to unleash his blade.
As Elduin ordered drinks for them, Dalien politely declined. "No thank you, I prefer not to drink mead." He was really hoping that they could eat some food.

Elduin nodded politely to the Dunmer "Then order what you wish, my recent...endevours have brought some profit and a Bosmer like myself is always looking for a few good friends." Elduin said as he glanced around the bar looking for his Argonian contact. "These damned scaleheads, I can't tell them apart." He thought to himself, being careful not to allow a trickle of that enraged emotion to be found on his face.

Jolfried glared at the Bosmer when he offered to buy him a drink. True, he didn't like any elf, but he exceptionally didn't trust one who bought him a drink out of the blue. "Let me tell you something, laddie," he said, taking a seat at the table where the three were sitting. "Jolfried Battle-born won't take drinks from no one I haven't fought in fair combat before. Now, unless you wanna brawl right here in front of this lovely lady, I'm going to be buying meself my own drinks. Got it?"

Elduin chuckled, he was beyond sure he could best the man but then he would risk exposure. "Suit yourself, more coin in my pocket." Elduin said as he took the mead he had bought Jolfried and took a long draft from it. "Now if you would excuse me, I was having a conversation with this lovely young woman." Elduin said to Jolfried as he placed his hand on a skillfully hidden dagger, he was sure the Nord would take the bait he had laid out.

Atla looked carefully at the drunk when he said his name. "Battle-born, eh?" she said, talking quickly before the Bosmer could. Tonight she didn't feel like brawling, although this Jolfried's prejudice was beginning to get on her nerves. "So you hail from Whiterun? Perhaps we have met before, after all." She took in Elduin and Jolfried as she said, "My name is Atla Wolfsbane, and this," she continued, gesturing to Dalien, "is my friend and traveling companion, Dalien. It is a pleasure to meet you both, and I'm sure we can have a good night and be friendly to each other, eh?" She then turned her full gaze on Jolfried. "But if it's truly a battle you are seeking, Battle-born, than I would be happy to be of assistance." Her hand trailed down to her sword, and she lifted an eyebrow at him. She half hoped he would take her up on the offer, just so she could beat some sense into him.
